This Finnish ensemble - with its revolving door policy of girl vocalists - has cornered the market in the genre. Oh, and a bit of Irish jiggery pokery thrown in for good measure. It also plays a genre commonly known as symphonic metal, a seemingly incongruous mixture of metal, classical stylings and big choirs. My turntable has been replaced by a digital streamer and that now plays anything from Lykie Li to Drive-by Truckers with a lot in between. Now getting on a little, I still haven’t lost my love of rock music, in all its forms. Metal was just something I raved about when I was a teenager. LPs by Sabbath, Purple and Led Zep were regular inhabitants of my turntable in those days but, as I grew older, I started listening to other stuff - folk, prog, jazz-fusion and so on. My interest in metal began and ended back in the 1970s.
